New routing in Kalymnos – Eterna

On the 30th October 2014 Francis Haden, Gordon Jenkin and Donna Kwok made the first ascent of Eterna on the South face of Tolendos: the first route in Kalymnos (and Greece) to be bolted using titanium resin bolts. This is now the longest multi pitch route on the island at 275m (900′) and most likely the longest climb in Kalymnos itself.

Overall 6 days were used to scope out the line from the base of the cliff, place danger tape to warn other climbers, fix static line, clean and equip the line. The route is fully equipped with abseil stations and very well protected such that the two harder pitches of F6b+ can be aided if necessary.

The route highlight being 50m of immaculate headwall climbing on chicken heads.IMG_3220 IMG_3223IMG_3186 IMG_3203 IMG_5600IMG_3256IMG_3218IMG_3321IMG_3331IMG_3334

Many thanks to Claude Idoux, the Kalymnos Rescue Team and Martin Roberts of Titan Climbing.
