Resin bolts in Laos

During February 2016 I visited Green Climbers in Laos and equipped the first routes in the country with resin bolts. The 7 Routes were bolted with Bolt Products 6mm * 80mm marine grade SS 316 bolts and Hilti RE500 epoxy resin brought with me from Hong Kong.

The brand new wall was climbed traditionally on-sight up the left flank to rig static rope after which all routes were cleaned and bolted in 4 days, using a total of 123 bolts.

The rock quality was excellent and the approach only a few minutes off the nearby road – typical for Asia!

Anchors were rigged with marine grade 316 long links and rap rings to equalise the loading and provide redundancy for each component used to build the anchor.

Thanks to Tanya and Uli Weidner of Green Climbers for arranging the necessary permission to bolt in advance of my trip and Jacob Brunning for key help in removing undergrowth at the crag.
